This new 2 storey house is based on the old site kitchen which would have prepared meals for the 20 people who worked at the mill in its heyday.

The new building retains the size and style of the original but has been moved a few metres.
The bathroom

La Cocina provides comfortable accommodation for two people. The house is entered on the upper level which contains the kitchen and sitting area. A wood burning stove gives the house a cosy feel in the cooler months.

Downstairs there is a bedroom and spacious shower room complete with bidet. From the bedroom double doors lead to the balcony furnished with a table and chairs.

The weekly rates are per property, based on up to two people sharing, self-catering and include bed linen, towels and gas/electricity. The towels provided are for use in the house and not for the pool or sunbathing. You should bring your own pool towels or alternatively you may hire them at 4 per person. The house has a fully equipped kitchen including an extra tap supplying purified drinking water. The fridge will be stocked with the basics for your first breakfast. A hair dryer is supplied.

Part week bookings of 3 or more nights are welcome and we offer a 10% discount on bookings of 2 weeks or more. Rentals may start on any day to suit our guests.

You may pay by cheque, bank transfer, PayPal or by credit card.

The house rental starts at 3:00pm on your arrival day.

The house rental finishes at 10:30am on your day of departure. If we have a same day turn round you will be asked to vacate your house by 10:30. If we do not have more guests arriving that day you will be able to extend your stay on payment of a 20 late occupancy charge applicable after 11:00.

The house is accessed by 3 steps and internally there is a shallow staircase with handrail.

When you arrive you will be asked for a 50 breakage deposit which will be returned before you leave less any deductions to cover the cost of breakages.

The bar and terrace

The bar is located in the old mill room and still features much of the original milling equipment including the flour grinding stones. You can socialise with other guests enjoying the peace of La Ratonera with a drink in the bar or on the mill terrace. Imagine sitting under the stars on balmy summer evenings and enjoying one of our regular tasty barbecues.

In the lower mill, dating from the 16th century, is the gym, library and tourism information centre while the favourite place for most guests in the long hot Summer days is the large pool which uses an eco friendly system to clean the water, reducing the chemicals required and making the water silky smooth.

Molino la Ratonera is an ideal walking centre as it is located on a network of tracks. We offer a range of self-guided walks to enable your group to explore at its own pace. We provide detailed instructions with distance, duration, historical information and maps to enable you to enjoy this beautiful environment. Although offically part of the municipality of Algarinejo, the nearest village, 2.5 kilometres away, is Zagra with shops, banks, bars, restaurants, swimming pool and castle. Both Zagra and Algarinejo embody the charm of Spain as it has been for decades where friendly, easygoing people welcome you into their lives.

The area is known as El Poniente Granadino (the west of Granada) and is rich in evidence of Andalucia's Moorish past with castles and watchtowers (atalayas) ever present on the horizon.
